Job Description

PM&R Physician – Specializing in Addiction Medicine

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Physician with a focus in Addiction Medicine to join a multidisciplinary care team. This role integrates physical rehabilitation with addiction treatment, supporting patients managing both physical impairments and substance use disorders.

As part of a whole-person care model, you will play a key role in restoring mobility, relieving pain, supporting recovery, and promoting long-term wellness across a diverse patient population.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with musculoskeletal, neurologic, and functional impairments, as well as substance use disorders.

  • Develop and implement personalized rehabilitation and addiction treatment plans.

  • Collaborate with physical therapists, behavioral health specialists, addiction counselors, and other providers to ensure integrated care.

  • Perform and interpret procedures such as EMGs, joint injections, ultrasound-guided injections, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).

  • Manage acute and chronic pain using evidence-based, non-surgical approaches that minimize opioid use.

  • Monitor patient progress in both physical and addiction recovery, adjusting care plans accordingly.

  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, rehabilitation strategies, and addiction recovery options.

  • Document all clinical encounters accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.

  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, addiction recovery planning, and quality improvement efforts.

  • Optionally supervise advanced practice providers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical institution.

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan.

  • DEA license.

  • Demonstrated experience in Addiction Medicine through clinical practice or formal training.

  • Proficiency with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fellowship training in pain medicine, sports medicine, spinal cord injury, brain injury, musculoskeletal medicine, or addiction medicine.

  • Experience in EMG/NCS and other diagnostic procedures.

  • Familiarity with outpatient rehab, inpatient rehab, addiction treatment programs, or interventional procedures.

  • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented approach.

  • Compassionate, stigma-free care philosophy toward individuals with substance use disorders.

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary – Reflective of your expertise and impact.

  • Comprehensive Benefits – Includes health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan – Secure your financial future with employer-sponsored retirement benefits.

  • Generous PTO and Paid Holidays – Maintain work-life balance and personal wellness.

  • Professional Development – Ongoing opportunities including addiction medicine training and leadership development.

  • Collaborative Work Environment – Join a supportive, mission-driven team focused on delivering integrated, whole-person care.
